Samphire was painstakingly and totally redesigned and renovated in 2013 to create a home away from home by the sea. There were two main objectives at the heart of the project – to create a place to completely relax in comfort and an ideal space for entertaining and socialising. The end result is a private, peaceful, spacious and contemporary house less than five minutes walk from the glorious Camber Sands beach. The aesthetic is modern and personal with a lot of the art in the property having been sourced from local artists who have captured the essence of the area.
A house designed for inside out living
As you walk in to the house, there is an underfloor heated porch to throw off coats and boots. From there the hallway leads through to the back of the house where you’ll find the heart of Samphire – a 40ft tile floored open plan kitchen/dining/living area. The space looks out on to a hardwood deck that spans the entire width of the property and leads on to a good sized garden, mainly laid to grass. 12ft bi-fold doors can be opened up to create a sensational inside/outside living space – perfect for entertaining. On the deck there is a ten seater oak table and benches, ideal for al fresco dining, along with a seating area including a double day bed for relaxing in the sun. The only thing that may get in the way of this is Hattie the Horse who lives in the field next to the garden and is fond of popping her head over the garden fence for a carrot! There is also a charcoal BBQ available for use in the garden.
The contemporary white gloss kitchen is fully fitted with all the mod cons you would expect, including a wine cooler, induction hob, dishwasher and integrated oven, microwave, fridge and freezer. There is a utility room that is equipped with a washing machine, tumble dryer and plenty of extra storage space. The central island in the kitchen is an ideal place to sit around for a relaxed meal. For more formal dining there is a ten seater Calligaris dining table looking out on to the deck and garden. The open plan area recesses to a comfy snug with a L-shaped sofa unit – a space for relaxing, listening to the Bose music system or watching some TV or DVDs. There are separate lighting systems for each of the areas in this open plan space so depending what you’re doing during the course of the evening, you can create different focus zones, including on the deck.
A sitting room that’s perfect for those cosy nights in
At the front of the house is the second living area. It was created to have a very different feel to the open plan living at the rear. It’s a cosy and intimate space with a large custom made sofa unit and two upholstered chairs with foot stools. The colour scheme is muted and relaxing with natural fabrics and wood being used in all the furnishings. You’ll find another Freeview HD TV, DVD player and bluetooth Bose music speakers in this room along with a wood burning stove, perfect for those chilly evenings in. There are plenty of side lamps to create a soft lit and soothing atmosphere.
Bedrooms and bathrooms to luxuriate in
There are two further rooms on the ground floor – a large kingsize bedroom with a small sofa and freestanding dressing table and wardrobe and then finally there is a bathroom with a walk-in shower. At the bottom of the stairs that lead up to the second floor is a bookcase, brimming with books, games and local information for you to take a look through.
Upstairs you’ll find three further bedrooms – all with built-in cupboards. The kingsize master bedroom looks out on to Romney Marsh to the left and the top of the dunes to the right. It has glass doors leading out to a wooden balcony with bistro table and chairs to enjoy the view. This room also has an en suite with bath and double shower unit. The second kingsize en-suite bedroom is at the front of the house, the bathroom is fitted with a freestanding bath as well as a shower unit. The third bedroom is a twin room with 3ft beds.
To make sure your stay is as comfortable as it can be, all bedding and towels are 400TC Egyptian cotton and the king size mattresses are from Warren Evans, voted best mattress retailer in 2012 by Which? readers. All bathrooms are contemporary and stylish with underfloor heating for guests who may be staying during the colder months.
Our changeover days are on Fridays and Mondays (only Fridays in peak season weeks), our weekend rate includes late departure on Sundays or departure on Monday morning. We have a mid week rate of four nights.
