Rye station to Camber Sands: bus, taxi or bike?
From Rye station, most guests reach Camber Sands on the Stagecoach 100 or by taxi. Cycling is also possible via the signed route towards Camber, but it is a choice for the right weather, luggage and confidence level.
The best option is not always the cheapest one. A couple with backpacks arriving in daylight may be perfectly happy on the bus. A family arriving after dinner with cases and a tired child will probably be grateful they booked a taxi.
Option one: the Stagecoach 100
The current route 100 timetable lists Rye Railway Station and Camber Sands Holiday Park, with stops through Camber before continuing towards Lydd and New Romney. East Sussex County Council also identifies the 100 as the bus serving Camber from Rye.
At Rye, use the stop shown in the current timetable and journey planner. Do not rely on a blog that gives an old platform, stop letter or last-bus time. Stagecoach changed parts of the East Sussex network in April and September 2026 and specifically tells passengers to check before travelling.
Know your Camber stop before boarding
Camber is a village and coastal strip, not one single arrival point. Ask your host for the nearest stop and save the cottage address offline. The Holiday Park stop may appear prominently in timetables, but it will not be the best stop for every property.
Tell the driver where you are staying if you are unsure, but do the homework first. Walking an unnecessary distance with cases is a poor way to begin a short break, especially after dark or in bad weather.
Option two: a pre-booked taxi
A taxi removes the timetable and luggage problem. It is our preferred option for evening arrivals, groups, guests with limited mobility and anyone who wants to stop for groceries before reaching the cottage.
Book in advance. Rye has a taxi rank, but local cars can be busy when trains arrive, during weddings and on popular weekends. Confirm the fare, passenger number, luggage and any child-seat requirement directly with the operator. If your train is delayed, contact the company rather than assuming it is tracking the service.
Option three: cycle from Rye
East Sussex County Council confirms a Sustrans cycle path leading from Rye to Camber. Our cycling guide covers the route and practical preparation in more detail.
Cycling works best with light luggage, daylight and a forecast you are comfortable with. Coastal wind can make a flat route feel much harder. Check whether your cottage has suitable bike storage and whether cycles are permitted on the train you plan to use.
What to do if the connection fails
Save taxi numbers before leaving Ashford and keep the Stagecoach journey planner open. If a delayed train misses the final useful bus, contact the property team and a taxi company while you are still travelling. Waiting until you are standing outside Rye station reduces the available options.
For planned engineering work, National Rail may use replacement buses or alter the Ashford connection. Check the whole trip on the day before travel and again before leaving London.
Make the final leg suit the stay
If you are staying in central Rye, you may not need an onward journey at all. Browse holiday cottages in Rye for a base close to the station, food and old town. If the beach is the priority, stay in Camber and solve the transfer once at each end of the holiday.
Trying to split the difference can create more travel rather than less. Pick the base that matches what you actually want to do, then choose the simplest connection.
