Bonfire nights and fireworks near Camber Sands in 2026
There is something rather lovely about a few days by the sea as autumn settles in. A walk along the sands, rosy cheeks over lunch, then an evening wrapped up beneath a sky full of fireworks. With a cottage to come home to, you can make a proper little break of it.
If you are joining us in October or November, there are several local celebrations to consider. They fall on different weekends, so it is worth choosing your evening before settling on your dates. Here are three ideas within reach of Camber, from a Halloween railway adventure to a traditional Sussex bonfire night.
Autumn fireworks dates for your diary
Details checked on 19 October 2026. Please check the organiser’s latest announcement before booking, especially for Rye, where the date remains provisional.
Kent & East Sussex Railway Fright Night
30 and 31 October – Ticketed evening departing from Tenterden, with fireworks at Northiam. Check availability.
Rye Bonfire Pageant
14 November, provisional – The society still marks this date “tbc”. Check its announcement before booking around the event.
Robertsbridge Bonfire
21 November – Evening procession and fireworks. Plan transport around road closures.
A Halloween evening aboard the railway
For children who love a train journey, Fright Night on the Kent & East Sussex Railway adds a little Halloween excitement to half term. Departing from Tenterden on 30 and 31 October 2026, the evening brings together a ride through the dark countryside, entertainment and fireworks at Northiam.
The railway describes the event as particularly popular with six to eleven-year-olds, although older children and adults are welcome too. Have a look at the programme together before booking, especially if your little ones are easily startled. Tickets are booked directly with the railway, and the fireworks depend on suitable weather.
Make a weekend of Rye Bonfire
Rye is a wonderful place to spend an autumn afternoon, with time to wander the cobbled streets and stop for something to eat. If you are hoping to combine your visit with the bonfire celebrations, Rye & District Bonfire Society currently lists Saturday 14 November 2026, marked as provisional.
Our Rye Bonfire Night guide will help you start planning. Once the date is confirmed, arrange your evening around the organiser’s access and transport advice. Having your journey back sorted means you can enjoy the occasion without wondering how everyone will get home afterwards.
A November outing to Robertsbridge
A little further afield, Robertsbridge Bonfire is listed for Saturday 21 November 2026. The published programme includes a procession at approximately 7.15pm, followed by fireworks at approximately 9pm.
Allow an evening for this outing. Road closures are listed from 5pm to 10pm and parking in the village is limited, so read the society’s travel and safety information before leaving your cottage. With a later finish, it may suit families whose children are happy staying up a little longer.
Warm layers and a cosy place to return to
Scarves, waterproofs and an early supper will help everyone enjoy the evening. Ear defenders can be useful for children who find the noise overwhelming. Check the event’s advice on accessibility and dogs, and agree a meeting point before joining a crowd.
Then leave a little room in the weekend for the quieter pleasures of being here. A morning on the beach, lunch in Rye and an unhurried evening together are all good reasons to stay another night.
