Seagulls

As one of Camber’s premier and oldest houses and built in 1871. Seagulls has recently been painstakingly restored to its former glory. With its white Sussex weatherboarding and sash windows this beautiful property is now available for all to enjoy.

Set on the edge of Camber overlooking the fields, it is within a stone’s throw of Camber Sands beach. Seagulls, with five large double bedrooms and three bathrooms can easily accommodate several families. Seagulls is the ultimate coastal escape.

Inside the property

Just off the spacious stone hallway is a large boot / utility room and cloak room. The long bench, ceiling airer, washing machine, tumble dryer, and plenty of hooks, its the ideal place to store your beach/ walking attire. The separate cloakroom has a large butler sink and an aerial map of the local surroundings.

The hub of the home is the large open plan kitchen, dining, sitting area. A mix of wooden and old stone floors merge together within a contemporary modern kitchen. A salvaged slate billiard table has been lovingly reworked into a stunning worktop and marries perfectly the old with the new. Gastronomes won’t be disappointed.

With a Neff induction hob, two electric ovens, Bosch dishwasher, and large American fridge freezer (with ice machine) you can cook up a feast. A Nespresso coffee machine can get your mornings going, whilst the sizeable walk-in pantry can store all your supplies and offers an array of dishes and platters, a microwave and another tall fridge freezer.

A long table comfortably seating 10 in the dining area sits beside the warmth of a large log burning stove. The snug with two leather sofas, and large Smart TV with Sonos sound bar allows you to be in the heart of it all. From the Dining area there are bifold doors that open up onto a large new deck, to enjoy the large lawn and established garden borders.

For those guests who need to ‘WFH’ there is a separate office – with desk, screen and printer, or which can be used by young gaming fanatics. Next door, the large sitting room is a welcome retreat in soft natural tones of blue, with two 4-seater sofas, another large Smart TV and warming log burner.

Additionally, a games table is set up for a round of Bridge or perfect for a puzzle. For those quiet moments, there’s a host of books and games available. Every effort has been made to ensure you have a relaxing stay.

Sleeping arrangements

Climbing the stairs, take in the carved seagull details on the banister to the first floor. All bedrooms have USB sockets and 400 thread count Egyptian linen. All bedrooms are large and beautifully appointed – guests will be happy in any bedroom!

Large Master Bedroom (1): A calm and inviting retreat, this bedroom has a large superking four poster bed. It has windows over two aspects looking out towards the dunes and the golf. The vast panelled ensuite bathroom has a roll top bath, vanity unit, large separate shower, heated towel rail and two big wardrobes.

Yellow Bedroom (2): The large middle bedroom has a historical map of the local area over the whole of one wall. It includes swivel chairs, rattan trunk, chest of drawers and a wardrobe.

Green Bedroom (3), Stylishly simple, the Green Bedroom is another superking/twin bedroom with a small desk, long mirror and double aspect views over the field and lane. With built in wardrobe and large chest of drawers it has ample storage space.

It shares the family tongue and grooved bathroom with the Yellow Room. The bathroom has a roll top bath, a large separate shower, vanity unit, a heated towel rail and a laundry chute into the utility room.

Ascending the winding stairs to the top attic floor, to the left is twin Left Attic Bedroom (4), set in the eaves with views of the dunes, a chest of drawers, and hanging for clothes.

To the right is the eaves bathroom with overhead shower in the bath, wc and vanity basin.  This is shared with Right Attic Bedroom (5), a superking with a desk, chest of drawers and hooks for clothes.

Outside the property

There is plenty of space for up to four cars at Seagulls. A locked shed is available for guests – perfect for bikes, surfboards, hanging wet suits (after using the outdoor shower!)

The traditional English planting in the rear garden is beautifully designed. A black garden shed with yellow windows, a nod to the late local talent Derek Jarman is not for guest use.

The new deck that runs from the kitchen with outside table, seating and barbecue is perfect for the setting sun and alfresco meals.

Things to note

Seagulls is a hop skip and a jump from the famous beach of Camber Sands. It sits at the beginning of the village and at the end of the Rye Golf Course (a 10 minute drive to the centre of Rye). Together with many fabulous restaurants, local vineyards, sporting, and cultural attractions you won’t be at a loss for something to do.

There are a few days a year when the glorious beach is very popular.  On these days the field behind the house is sometimes used as an overflow car park but this is not too visible from the house or intrusive.

The property has superfast broadband with good Wi-Fi throughout and both TV’s have SKY Q including the Sky Sports package.

Starlings, the annexe to Seagulls, can also be rented with two additional bedrooms and two bathrooms, making it the perfect spot for a large family gathering.

2 Dogs are welcome – please add to the booking form.
